Police Charge Man In March 2024, Northeast, D.C. Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, following an investigation, a 22-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the shooting death of a 22-year-old Temple Hills, Maryland, man that occurred in March 2024, in Northeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll, and as previously reported, on Friday, March 22, 2024, members ofthe D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to reports of gunfire on the 300 Block of 59th Street in Northeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers located a man, later identified as Matthew Ginyard, 22, of Temple Hills, Maryland, unresponsive on the ground, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Ginyard was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

     During the ensuing investigation, based on witness accounts and area video surveillance footage that was recovered, D.C. Homicide Branch Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Melvin Nathaniel Lee, Jr., 22, of Northeast, D.C., and as the individual responsible for the murder of Mr. Ginyard, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

     On Thursday, January 22, 2026, Lee was located and taken into custody by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder While Armed. Lee was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
