ELMWOOD PARK, NJ.- Last week, following a month-long investigation, a 29-year-old Passaic, New Jersey, man and a 24-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, woman were taken into custody and charged in connection with the alleged shooting of a man that occurred last month in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, just shortly before 11:30 p.m., members of the Elmwood Park Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting on Donor Avenue in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.
Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers located a 27-year-old man who had been struck by gunfire. The man was immediately transported by Emergency Medical Services to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was treated for gunshot wounds and continues to recover at home.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Elmwood Police Department, were able to identify the shooter as Jhamir E. Brown, 29, of Passaic, New Jersey, and charges were filed in the investigation for Brown’s arrest.
Accordingly, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Brown was located and taken into custody without incident in Wayne, New Jersey, by Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; third-degree Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon; and fourth-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.
Brown was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
During the apprehension of Brown, Detectives discovered that Darial P. Hunt, 24, of Paterson, New Jersey, an acquaintance of Brown, was in possession of 9mm hollow-point bullets. Following the discovery of the ammunition, Hunt was formally charged with one count of fourth-degree Possession of Hollow-Nose Ammunition. She was processed on the charge and was released on monitoring conditions pending further court proceedings.
