WASHINGTON, DC.- On Saturday, a 38-year-old Washington, D.C., woman was taken into custody and charged with threatening and assaulting a group of victims in an apparent racial and bias crime that occurred earlier that evening in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an assault in the lobby of an apartment building located on the 1300 Block of Corcoran Street in Northwest, D.C.
Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers were informed by a group of victims that a woman, later identified as Sharon Brown, 38, of Northeast, D.C., approached them in the lobby and began making racial slurs about them and assaulted them. Brown was taken into custody at the scene.
Accordingly, based on the victims’ accounts and Detectives’ follow up investigation, Brown was formally charged with Felony Threats; and Simple Assault. She was processed on the charges and was detained pending her first appearance in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident as a bias or hate incident, and charges could be upgraded at the conclusion of the investigation.
“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
