Philadelphia Man Convicted In November 2023, Atlantic City Shooting Death

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- On Wednesday, a 37-year-old Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, man learned he will be facing up to the rest of his life in New Jersey State Prison, when sentenced in late March after being convicted on Wednesday, for the November 2023 Atlantic City, New Jersey, fatal shooting.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, following a trial in Atlantic County Superior Court before Superior Court Judge Pamela D’Arcy, a jury found Jamar Jones, 27, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, guilty of first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Jones was subsequently found guilty by Judge D’Arcy of being a Certain Person Not to Possess Weapons.
Following the jury returning their findings of guilt, Judge D’Arcy accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for March 26, 2026. At that time, Jones faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years and up to life in State Prison. In addition, Jones will face a consecutive 10 years in prison on his conviction for being a certain person not to possess weapons.
The conviction stems from an investigation that began on November 7, 2024, when members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 26 South Florida Avenue in the City. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim, only identified as L.L.R., having succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head. A subsequent autopsy confirmed that the Cause of Death was a Gunshot Wound to the Head, and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives learned that L.L.R. was involved in a fight with Jones, just 43 minutes prior to the shooting. The fight and shooting were captured on area video surveillance footage. Detectives also recovered surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store that captured Jones purchasing a mask just minutes before the shooting and then returning to the area of the shooting.
On December 11, 2023, Detectives filed charges against Jones, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
   On February 20, 2023, members of the Atlantic City Police Department’s SWAT Team located and arrested Jones. He attempted to evade capture by leaping out third-floor window of an Atlantic City apartment building located at 61 N. Martin Luther King Boulevard. Jones sustained serious injuries in his fall.Â
