WHARTON, NJ.- Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Morris County Chief of Detectives Robert M. McNally, and Wharton Police Chief Wharton Police Department Dave Young announced the arrest of Gregory Williams, 40, of Idaho, in connection with the alleged production of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and the sexual assault of a minor.
According to authorities, Williams has been charged in New Jersey with one count of first-degree Production of Child Pornography; one count of second-degree Sexual Assault; one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and one count of third-degree Obscenity.
Investigation Origin And Allegations;
The investigation began in July 2025, when law enforcement received a report that a 14-year-old girl in New Jersey had been communicating online with someone she believed to be a 16-year-old. Investigators allege the individual was, in fact, Gregory Williams.
Authorities state that Williams repeatedly asked the minor to send nude photographs, which were allegedly provided. Investigators further allege that Williams sent images of adult pornography to the child. Based on those allegations, detectives initiated a coordinated, multi-agency investigation.
Multi-Agency Coordination;
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit, working alongside the Wharton Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, conducted additional investigative steps. Officials said Williams was living in Idaho at the time of the alleged offenses and is pending extradition to New Jersey to face prosecution in Morris County.
Prosecutor Carroll publicly acknowledged the efforts of the Wharton Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office ICAC Task Force, and the FBI for their roles in the investigation.
Federal Charges In Idaho;
In addition to the New Jersey state charges, Williams has also been charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Idaho with Transfer of Obscene Material to a Minor and Sexual Exploitation of Children, federal offenses that carry significant penalties upon conviction.
Authorities confirmed that Williams is pending a detention hearing in federal court in Idaho. Proceedings related to extradition and the coordination between federal and state cases remain ongoing.
Ongoing Case;
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation is active and ongoing, and additional charges could be filed if further evidence is developed.
As with all criminal matters, officials reiterated that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Gregory Williams is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
