Military Says Identities & Operational Details Will Be Withheld For 24 Hours As Families Are Notified; Major Combat Operations Ongoing

Sunday, March 1, 2026, 11:20 A.M. ET. 3 Minute Read, By Jennifer Hodges, Political Editor: Englebrook Independent News,

TAMPA, FL.- U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported Sunday that three U.S. military service members were tragically killed in action and five others were seriously wounded during Operation Epic Fury, marking the first publicly confirmed American combat deaths of the operation as fighting continues across the region.

     CENTCOM said the casualty count was current “as of 9:30 a.m. ET” and emphasized that the situation remains “fluid.” The command further stated that additional service members sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are being medically evaluated and processed for potential return to duty.

What CENTCOM Has Confirmed, And What It Has Not;

     In its March 1, 2026, statement, CENTCOM did not disclose the precise location where the service members were killed or wounded, nor the exact circumstances of how the casualties occurred. The command also did not identify the specific units involved.

     CENTCOM said it will withhold additional details, including the identities of the fallen, until 24 hours after next-of-kin notifications are completed, citing longstanding Department of Defense policy and respect for the families.

     Because those operational and personal details have not yet been released, Englebrook Independent News cannot independently verify or responsibly publish the exact “how” and “where” of the deaths and injuries beyond what has been officially confirmed.

     The Department of Defense’s casualty protocol requires formal family notification prior to public release of names, ranks, hometowns, and unit assignments. That process is currently underway.

Operation Epic Fury: Launch And Mission Objectives;

     Operation Epic Fury began in the early hours of February 28, 2026, when CENTCOM announced U.S. and partner forces initiated coordinated strikes at approximately 1:15 a.m. Eastern Time.

     According to CENTCOM’s initial press release, the mission targeted:

  • Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) command-and-control facilities
  • Iranian air defense systems
  • Missile and drone launch infrastructure
  • Military airfields assessed to pose imminent threats

CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper stated at the launch of the operation:

     “The President ordered bold action, and our brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Guardians, and Coast Guardsmen are answering the call.”

     The initial February 28, 2026, statement indicated that U.S. forces successfully defended against hundreds of Iranian missile and drone attacks in the opening phase of combat and reported no U.S. casualties at that time.

     Sunday’s update, however, confirmed that combat operations have since resulted in tragic American losses.

The Human Cost Of Combat;

     The deaths of three service members and the serious injuries of five others underscore the inherent risks borne by U.S. forces operating in high-intensity environments. While senior military officials have emphasized that the objective of Operation Epic Fury is to neutralize imminent threats and protect American personnel and regional stability, the cost of that mission is now deeply personal for multiple American families.

     CENTCOM stated Sunday that “major combat operations continue” and that U.S. forces remain actively engaged in response operations across the theater.

     As is standard military procedure, additional details, including the names, ranks, ages, and home states of the fallen, are expected to be released once families have been formally notified.

     For now, the nation pauses to honor three Americans who were tragically killed in uniform, and five others who remain seriously wounded while serving their country.

Editor’s Note:

     This is a breaking and developing story, and was composed by Jennifer Hodges, Political Editor. U.S. Central Command has confirmed the casualty totals but has not released the identities of the fallen, the identities of the wounded, or detailed operational information explaining precisely how and where the casualties occurred. CENTCOM stated it will withhold further information for 24 hours following next-of-kin notification.

Englebrook Independent News will continue to monitor official Department of War releases and will update this report as soon as verified details become available.
