TRENTON, NJ.- A five-month narcotics investigation conducted by the Mercer County Narcotics Task Force culminated this week with the arrest of a Burlington County man and the seizure of narcotics valued at more than $127,000, along with four firearms and thousands of dollars in suspected drug proceeds, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey announced.
The investigation targeted a suspected narcotics distribution operation believed to be operating in several Mercer County, New Jersey communities. The Mercer County Narcotics Task Force (MCNTF) conducted the investigation with assistance from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the New Jersey State Police, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ewing and Hamilton police departments.
According to prosecutors, the investigation culminated during the early morning hours of March 2, 2026, when detectives executed multiple court-authorized search warrants tied to Ronald C. Smith, 43, of Roebling, New Jersey, and several locations believed to be connected to the alleged drug operation.
At approximately 6:50 a.m., investigators detained Smith at his residence on Norman Avenue in Roebling, a section of Florence Township in Burlington County, New Jersey.
A search of the residence resulted in the recovery of approximately $9,500 in cash and assorted financial records that investigators believe may be linked to narcotics distribution activity.
Authorities said Smith was also found to be in possession of keys that provide access to three additional locations associated with the investigation: a residence on New Trent Street in Ewing, an apartment on Old Rose Street in Trenton, and a padlock securing a detached shed on a property on Brenwal Avenue in Ewing.
Multiple Search Warrants Executed;
Detectives subsequently executed search warrants at each of those locations.
At the New Trent Street property in Ewing, investigators located approximately 100 grams of crack cocaine, one brick of heroin, as well as two high-capacity firearm magazines and assorted ammunition, according to the prosecutor’s office.
A separate search conducted at the Brenwal Avenue property in Ewing uncovered two firearms inside the residence, a .380-caliber handgun and a single-barreled shotgun.
During the operation, Hamilton Township Police K-9 Officer Paul Piromalli deployed his K-9 partner Loki to conduct a sniff of both the exterior and interior areas of the property. Prosecutors said the police dog provided a positive indication for the presence of narcotics in a detached shed located in the yard.
A subsequent search of the shed revealed a large quantity of narcotics, including:
- 700 grams of powder cocaine
- 40 bricks of heroin
- 10 grams of raw heroin
Authorities then executed a third search warrant at the Old Rose Street apartment in Trenton, where detectives recovered 1,800 ecstasy tablets, five bricks of heroin, and two additional firearms, a 9mm Beretta handgun and a 9mm Springfield handgun, the latter of which had been reported stolen, according to investigators.
Street Value Of Seized Narcotics;
Prosecutor Marbrey said the estimated street value of the narcotics seized during the coordinated operation totals approximately $127,200, including:
- $70,000 in powder cocaine
- $10,000 in crack cocaine
- $9,200 in pre-packaged heroin
- $2,000 in raw heroin
- $36,000 in ecstasy tablets
Law enforcement officials noted that the seizure represents a significant disruption to a suspected narcotics distribution network operating within the region.
Charges Filed;
Smith has been charged with multiple first- and second-degree narcotics offenses, as well as multiple second-degree weapons offenses related to the firearms recovered during the investigation.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion seeking to detain Smith pending trial under New Jersey’s pretrial detention statutes. A detention hearing is expected to be scheduled in Mercer County Superior Court.
Authorities indicated the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as investigators continue to analyze evidence recovered during the search warrant executions.
Multi-Agency Effort;
The Mercer County Narcotics Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional unit composed of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working collaboratively to identify, investigate, and dismantle narcotics trafficking operations operating within Mercer County and surrounding areas.
Prosecutor Marbrey credited the coordinated efforts of participating agencies for the successful conclusion of the months-long investigation.
