MILLVILLE, NJ.- A Millville man has been charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter following a fatal stabbing that left a local resident dead after being transported to a Vineland hospital, Cumberland County authorities announced this week.

Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae confirmed that Benny Dixon Jr., 41, of North Second Street in Millville, was formally charged on March 3, 2026, in connection with the death of Detyren Hatch, 35, of East Broad Street in Millville, New Jersey.

According to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, the charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on February 16, 2026, at Dixon’s residence.

Authorities say the investigation determined that during the encounter, Dixon allegedly stabbed Hatch, causing serious injuries. Emergency responders transported Hatch to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, New Jersey, where he later died as a result of the injuries sustained during the attack, prosecutors said.

Following the investigation, Dixon was charged with multiple criminal offenses, including:

  • First-degree Aggravated Manslaughter
  • Third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose

Under New Jersey law, first-degree aggravated manslaughter carries a potential sentence of 10 to 30 years in state prison if a defendant is convicted.

The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Dixon pending trial. A detention hearing is currently scheduled for Monday, March 9, 2026, in Cumberland County Superior Court, when a judge will determine whether Dixon will remain jailed as the case moves forward.

Authorities have not publicly released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the alleged stabbing.

The Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing to investigate the incident.

Officials are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact Millville Police Detective Dominick Santiago at (856) 825-7010 or Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Emilio Santiago at (856) 453-0486 Ext. 28005Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the prosecutor’s office online tip portal at CCPO.TIPS from any smartphone, tablet, or computer.

     The investigation remains ongoing.
