Authorities Charge 66-Year-Old Barnegat Resident Following Undercover Operation In Pleasantville; Investigation Remains Ongoing

PLEASANTVILLE, NJ.- A 66-year-old Ocean County man has been arrested and charged with multiple felony offenses involving the alleged sexual exploitation of a minor under the age of 16, following a coordinated investigation by local and county law enforcement authorities.

According to officials, James Hadley, 66, of Barnegat, New Jersey, was taken into custody on Friday, March 13, 2026, in Pleasantville after traveling from Ocean County to meet a juvenile for the purpose of engaging in a sexual act.     Hadley has been formally charged with second-degree Sexual Assault of a Minor, second-degree Luring of a Minor, third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact. Authorities allege that the charges stem from at least three separate incidents occurring earlier this month.

Law enforcement officials stated that Hadley arrived at a prearranged meeting location in Pleasantville, where he was intercepted and arrested by detectives from the Pleasantville Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit before any further contact with the minor could occur.

Investigators further allege that Hadley had previously met the same juvenile on at least two prior occasions, during which he paid the minor to perform sexual acts. Those earlier encounters form a central part of the case now being pursued by prosecutors.

Authorities emphasized that the arrest was the result of a targeted investigative effort aimed at preventing further harm and securing evidence related to the alleged pattern of abuse.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pre-trial detention, seeking to keep Hadley in custody pending trial. A detention hearing is tentatively scheduled for the coming week, where a judge will determine whether the defendant will remain detained or be released under conditions.     Officials confirmed that the investigation remains active and did not rule out additional charges or further developments, as detectives continue to review evidence and conduct follow-up inquiries.

No additional details about the identity of the victim have been released, in accordance with laws protecting minors involved in sexual offense cases.

If convicted, Hadley faces significant prison time under New Jersey law, particularly given the severity of the charges and the alleged involvement of a minor.
