Fairview Man Accused Of Attempted Murder After Early-Morning Grant Street Attack Leaves Victim With Serious Injuries

FAIRVIEW, NJ.- A 60-year-old Fairview man has been formally charged in connection with a violent stabbing that left another man seriously injured in the early morning hours of March 14, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.
The suspect, identified as Victor A. Soto, 60, of Fairview, New Jersey, faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree attempted murder, following what authorities described as a targeted and brutal assault.
According to officials, the incident unfolded at approximately 1:23 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, when officers from the Fairview Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing on Grant Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 60-year-old male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to his face, hands, and legs.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center, where he was admitted with serious injuries. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, and his current condition has not been publicly updated.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspect fled the scene immediately following the attack. However, Fairview police officers quickly located and apprehended the individual a short distance away.
Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, operating under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, responded to the scene and joined the investigation alongside the Fairview Police Department, led by Chief Vincent Bellucci. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined that Soto allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before attempting to evade law enforcement. Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive or the relationship, if any, between the suspect and the victim.
Charges Filed;
As a result of the joint investigation, Soto has been charged with the following offenses:
- First-degree Attempted Murder
- Second-degree Aggravated Assault
- Third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose
- Fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
Following his arrest, Soto was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, where he remains in custody pending further proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Officials emphasized that the charges are accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges or individuals may be involved.
