Elizabeth Man Sentenced To Prison For Attempted Murder

ON FRIDAY A 57-YEAR-OLD ELIZABETH MAN WAS SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR RUNNING DOWN A WOMAN IN 2022

     “Vincent Jean Was Sentenced To 25 Years In New Jersey State Prison On Multiple Charges For Running Down A Woman With His Car In 2022.”

ELIZABETH, NJ.- Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel reported, on Friday, April 12, 2024, a Union County Superior Court Judge Sentenced a 57-Year-Old Elizabeth, New Jersey man to 25 Years in New Jersey State Prison for Running Down a 23-Year-Old woman with his car during a 2022 Road Rage Incident in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

     Following a Trial on February 8, 2024, a Jury sitting in Union County, New Jersey, Returned Guilty Verdicts against Vincent Jean, 57, of Elizabeth, New Jersey on The Charges of First Degree Attempted Murder; Second Degree Aggravated Assault; Third Degree Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon; Third Degree Assault by Auto; Third Degree Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Bodily Injury; Third Degree Endangering an Injured Victim; and Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

     Following the Conviction, on Friday, April 12, 2024, The Honorable Thomas Isenhour, J.S.C. Sentenced Mr. Jean to a Term of Twenty-Five Years in New Jersey State Prison. Under the Terms of The Sentence Jean will be Required to Serve Nineteen Years and Six Months of His Custodial Term before becoming Eligible for Parole.

     The Conviction and Sentence stem from an incident, when on the morning of April 12, 2022, Members of The Elizabeth Police Department responded to the area of Salem Avenue and Aberdeen Road in The City of Elizabeth after receiving multiple 911 Emergency Calls Reporting a Pedestrian had been Struck by a Motor Vehicle. Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 23-Year-Old woman on the Front Lawn of a Residence, suffering from Multiple Serious Injuries. The woman was transported to University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey for treatment.

     During the Trial, The Prosecutor’s Office presented witnesses who testified that Jean and the woman were involved in a minor Motor Vehicle Accident in the area. Following the Accident, Jean attempted to Flee the Scene, while the woman began taking photographs of Jean’s Car. At that point, Jean drove his car toward the woman, who ran onto a lawn to avoid being struck. Jean Drove onto the lawn and deliberately struck the woman multiple times before Fleeing the scene.

     Jean was later located by Elizabeth Police Officers sitting in his damaged vehicle and was immediately Taken into Custody.

     “I hope this sentence can provide some assurance to the victim and her family, as well as the community, that we will not tolerate these egregious offenses and will expend all of our efforts to bring offenders to justice,” expressed Prosecutor Daniel.
