ROUND ROCK, TX.- Gunfire erupted Saturday night, killing 2, and has left 6 hospitalized in serious condition, after what appeared to be an apparent altercation between two groups of people at a Juneteenth Celebration at a local Round Rock park.

According to Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks, gunfire rang out at around 10:50 p.m. at Old Settlers Park, following a fight between two groups who were attending the event.

During an early Sunday morning press briefing. “The unfortunate part is that we had innocent victims as a result of these reckless actions of certain subjects,” said Chief Banks. “We’re here to celebrate Juneteenth and the unfortunate part is these folks could care less about someone’s life and take someone’s life, and on a day we’re here to celebrate community.”

Chief Banks stated, that Police Officers and members of the Round Rock Fire Department who were at the event immediately helped the victims of the shooting. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services Medics responded to the scene and transported four adults and two children with serious injuries to a nearby hospital. Two people were pronounced deceased at the scene.

All of the injured and deceased were reported as not being part of the fight.

Following the shooting, the suspects are believed to have fled the area and still remain at large as authorities continue to search for them.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims,” said Chief Banks. “My condolences go out to the families of the deceased.”

Anyone with video footage of the area or information regarding this shooting is asked to contact the Round Rock Police Department at (512) 218-5500.
