On Tuesday, A 39-Year-Old Egg Harbor Township Man Was Indicted On Charges For Running Down & Killing Bicyclist

MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, that a Grand Jury sitting in Atlantic County, New Jersey, returned an indictment against Shawn P. Duffy, 39, of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, on the charges of second-degree Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash; and second-degree Vehicular Homicide.
The charges are in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on February 6, 2024, in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.
According to authorities, on February 6, 2024, just minutes after 6:30 p.m., Duffy, while driving, was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Steelmanville Road in Egg Harbor Township. It has been alleged that Duffy was driving under the influence of alcohol when he struck a bicyclist and fled the scene.
The bicyclist, Neil G. Burman, 68, of Egg Harbor Township, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Members of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigation Unit and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department swiftly investigated and identified the motor vehicle and its driver as Duffy and the individual responsible for colliding with Mr. Burman, ultimately causing his death.
