CLIFTON, NJ.- Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit, in conjunction with the Clifton Police Department, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Monday morning’s fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Route 3 in Clifton, New Jersey, that claimed the life of the truck driver.
According to Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi, at around 9:00 a.m., members of the Clifton Police Department and the Clifton Police Department responded to the area of Route 3 West near Grove Street in Clifton after receiving a report of a serious motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders found a tractor-trailer fully engulfed in flames that had crashed into the side barrier on Route 3 West. Route 3 was closed in both directions while firefighters extinguished the fire. During the initial investigation, Police Officers determined that a bus had struck the truck from behind, pushing it into the barrier and causing it to explode.
Following the fire being brought under control, members of the Clifton Fire Department discovered the body of the truck driver, only identified at this time as a 55-year-old Linden, New Jersey man.
Following the discovery of the man’s body, at around 11:00 a.m., the Clifton Police Department notified the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, and Detectives responded, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.
The exact cause of the vehicle crash remains undetermined at this time. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
