One Dead, Another Seriously Injured After 2 Motorcyclists Rear-End Motor Vehicle Sunday Night

EDISON, NJ.- Middlesex County Authorities are continuing the investigation into Sunday night’s fatal crash that killed one motorcyclist and left another motorcyclist hospitalized in serious condition.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Sunday, July 28, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., members of the Edison Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a multi-vehicle crash on Route 1 North and Old Post Road in Edison.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Alexander Teshima Chong, 44, of Belleville, New Jersey, who was operating a motorcycle at the time of the collision. Mr. Chong succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A second motorcyclist, a 44-year-old man, suffered serious injuries in the collision and was immediately transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment, where he continues to recover.
The initial investigation by Detective Stephen Nappe of the Edison Police Department and Detective James Alleva of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the two men, each operating separate motorcycles turned onto Route 1 North from Old Post Road and crashed into the rear of a BMW Sport Utility Vehicle, killing Mr.Chong and seriously injuring the other motorcyclist.
The BMW driver was not injured in the crash and was released at the scene pending further investigation.
