29-Year-Old Trenton Man Charged In The May 2024 Kingsbury Square Housing Complex Murder & Shooting

TRENTON, NJ.- On Monday, a 29-year-old Trenton, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with gunning two men down, one fatally, outside the Kingsbury Square housing complex on May 19, 2024, in Trenton, New Jersey.

     According to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri, Jozef Field, 29, of Trenton has been formally charged with first-degree Murder; two counts of first-degree Attempted Murder; two counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Possession of a weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

     Field was taken into custody at the Kingsbury Apartments in Trenton on Monday, July 29, 2024, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. 

     Following being processed on the charges, Field was remanded to the Mercer County Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Mercer County Superior Court. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to have Field detained pending trial.

     The charges stem from an investigation that began on May 19, 2024, when shortly before 6:00 p.m., the Trenton Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation for multiple shots being fired and multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting two individuals being shot at 2 Kingsbury Square in the City of Trenton.

     Members of the Trenton Police Department and Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.

     Upon arrival, Police and First Responders found two 18-year-old men who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

     Both men were immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where one of the men, Stephon Fisher,18, of Trenton, New Jersey, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later. The second man, an 18-year-old Trenton, New Jersey man, suffered three gunshot wounds and was treated and has since been released from the medical center.

     An investigation by Detectives of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department was able to identify Jozef Field and Steven Key, 30, of Trenton, New Jersey, as the shooters and the individuals responsible for the death of Mr. Fisher and the shooting of the other man. Key was also charged with the shooting homicide, but on July 14, 2024, Key died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, prior to his arrest.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing.
