According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Friday, June 14, 2024, at just around 2:00 a.m., members of the Wayne Police Department responded to the area of Hamburg Turnpike and Black Oak Ridge Road in Wayne following receiving a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, Police Officers made contact with a potential victim, who was identified as a 44-year-old Pompton Lakes resident. Based on the initial investigation, a crime scene was identified at that location.

During the investigation, D’Airon J. James, 31, of Paterson, New Jersey, was taken into custody at the scene and formally charged with first-degree Attempted Murder; third-degree Aggravated Assault; fourth-degree Assault by Auto; third-degree Endangering Another Person; third-degree Criminal Mischief; and third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

James was processed on the charges, and following a detention hearing in Passaic County Superior Court on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, a Superior Court Judge ordered that James be detained pending the resolution of the charges filed against him.

If convicted on the charges, James will face a potential New Jersey State Prison term of up to 20 years.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
