24-Year-Old Worcester Woman Indicted For Smuggling Suboxone Into Philadelphia Federal Detention Center

PHILADELPHIA, PA.- On Friday, U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero reported that a federal indictment has returned charging Wanderis De La Cruz, 24, of Worcester, Massachusetts, with one count of Attempting to Introduce Contraband into a Prison.
According to documents filed in the information and unsealed in the indictment, De La Cruz attempted to smuggle 18 sublingual 8mg film strips of Suboxone into an inmate being detained at the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in July 2024.
If convicted on the charge, De La Cruz faces a potential federal term of incarceration of five years, and upon release, she will face an additional term of supervised release and a potential monetary fine.
U.S. Attorney Romero commended the FBI’s investigation, which led to Ms. De La Cruz’s arrest and indictment.
