Three Egg Harbor City Men Charged With The 2016 Shooting Death Of Demond Cottman In Mall Parking Lot

MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Following a years-long investigation, last Wednesday, August 7, 2024, three Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, men were formally charged in connection with the Friday, November 25, 2016, Hamilton Mall parking lot shooting of two Atlantic City, New Jersey brothers, one fatally.

     According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Friday, November 25, 2016, at around 1:15 a.m., members of the Hamilton Township Police Department responded to the parking lot of the Hamilton Mall following receiving a report of shots being fired.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found two brothers, later identified as Shadi Cottman, 26, and Demond Cottman, 21, both from Atlantic City, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Demond Cottman succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Shadi Cottman was transported to an area hospital for treatment and has since recovered.

     Following a years-long and extensive investigation by Detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hamilton Township Police Department were able to identify Steven Martinez, 30, Timothy Davis, 27, and Malik Boone, 30, all from Egg Harbor City, New Jersey as the individuals responsible for shooting the Cottman brothers, resulting in the death of Demond Cottman.

     Accordingly, on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Steven Martinez, Timothy Davis, and Malik Boone were each charged with Murder; Conspiracy to Commit Murder; and Weapons Offenses related to the death of Demond Cottman.

     Martinez and Davis are currently incarcerated and were served with the charges at the institutions where they are being housed. Boone remains at large and is considered to be a fugitive from justice.
