19-Year-Old Long Branch Man Indicted On Charges For 2023 Asbury Park Triple Shooting That Left 1 Dead & 2 Injured

ASBURY PARK, NJ.- A Grand Jury sitting in Monmouth County, New Jersey, has returned a nine-count indictment against a 19-year-old Long Branch, New Jersey man for his role in a gang-related triple shooting that occurred in July 2023 in Asbury Park, leaving one man dead and two others injured.
Nine Count Indictment
According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, the Grand Jury returned the indictment against Michael Sally, 19, of Long Branch, on the charges of first-degree Murder; first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; first-degree Gang Criminality; two counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and third-degree Receiving Stolen Property.
A second person was charged as a juvenile under the juvenile delinquency statutes, and their charges remain pending in Monmouth County Superior Court.
The indictment on the charges stems from an investigation that unfolded on Monday, July 3, 2023, when, shortly after 10:30 p.m., members of the Asbury Park Police Department responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a shooting with injuries at the Asbury Park Gardens Apartment Complex located on Atlantic Avenue.
Multiple People Injured
Upon arrival, Police Officers found three men, all suffering from gunshot wounds. All three men were immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where two were treated for their injuries and were subsequently released. The third man, Lativity Lyons, 21, of Asbury Park, New Jersey, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later. A fourth person, who was the intended target of the shooting, escaped injury.
An ensuing investigation into the shooting by Detectives of Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department was to identify Sally as one of the individuals responsible for the shooting that led to the death of Mr. Lyons.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Sally was located in Long Branch and was taken into custody by Detectives of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Asbury Park Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
After being taken into custody, Sally was processed on the charges and remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where he remains pending trial.
