NEWARK, NJ.- On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, two members of the violent Jersey City, New Jersey, gang associated with the “Marion Gardens” Housing Complex appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. The two were sentenced for their roles in two violent shootings and other gang-related racketeering crimes.

According to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger, Jakeem Gibson-Madison, known by the street name “Beanz,” 30, and Terick Rogers, known by the street name “Moot,” 32, both of Jersey City, New Jersey, were sentenced on Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi in Newark federal court.

Judge Cecchi sentenced Gibson-Madison to 15 years in prison and Rogers to 16 years in prison. Judge Cecchi further ordered that upon their release from federal prison, both Gibson-Madison and Rogers would be required to serve an additional five years of supervised release.

Documents Filed With The Court

According to documents filed with the court, Gibson-Madison, Rogers, and others were all members and associates of the neighborhood street gang associated with the Marion Gardens Housing Complex. They would routinely distribute cocaine, heroin, and other controlled substances in and around the Marion Gardens Housing Complex.

They also engaged in various acts of violence, including multiple assaults, shootings, and murders, which targeted rival gang members and others.

Gibson-Madison and another member of the enterprise participated in a shooting on January 9, 2019. Gibson-Madison drove his fellow gang member to the area of Grant and Ocean Avenues to target a rival gang member. At that time, his fellow gang member pulled out a firearm, shot two individuals, and attempted to shoot a third individual.

On June 30, 2018, Rogers, with two other members of the enterprise, collectively shot five people while celebrating “Meech Day” in honor of a deceased fellow gang member.

U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations under the direction of Special Agents in Charge James E. Dennehy, investigators of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Prosecutor Esther Suarez, and the Jersey City Police Department under the direction of Director James Shea, for the investigation, for the arrests, charges and ultimately the convictions leading to the prison terms.
