25-Year-Old Paterson Man, Employed As A Police Officer, Was Charged Yesterday With Shoplifting

PATERSON, NJ.- Yesterday, a 25-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man who is employed as a Paterson Police Officer was taken into custody and formally charged with in connection with a shoplifting incident while he was working a security detail at Marshals Department Store.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Jeury DeJesus-Rodriguez, 25, was taken into custody on Wednesday, August 22, 2024, at the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office in Totowa, New Jersey, and formally charged by Detectives with third-degree Official Misconduct; and a Disorderly Persons Offense of Shoplifting.
DeJesus-Rodriguez was processed on the charges and released on a summons pending his first appearance, scheduled for September 9, 2024, in Passaic County Central Judicial Processing Court.
Investigation
A joint investigation by Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Public Integrity Unit and the Paterson Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division determined that DeJesus-Rodriguez, while employed as a police officer with the Paterson Police Department, worked an overtime shift providing security for the Marshalls store in Paterson, New Jersey.
While working, DeJesus-Rodriguez shoplifted several clothing items by taking them into an employee bathroom and removing the packaging and price tags. Jesus-Rodriguez then left the store without paying for the items, which had a total retail value of $66.97.
DeJesus-Rodriguez’s employment status with the Paterson Police Department was not released.
