34-Year-Old Paterson Man Charged With The August 23, 2024, Paterson, New Jersey Shooting

PATERSON, NJ.- On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, a 34-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a shooting that occurred during the evening hours of August 23, 2024, in Paterson that left a 31-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man hospitalized from a gunshot wound.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Jioni Rosado, 34, of Paterson, New Jersey, has been formally charged with first-degree Attempted Murder; first-degree Robbery; first-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.
Investigation
The charges stem from an investigation that began on Friday, August 23, 2024, when shortly after 11:00 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting gunfire in the area of Highland and Sparrow Streets in the City of Paterson.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 31-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment and was subsequently released. During the initial investigation, responding Police Officers identified a shooting crime scene at that location.
Suspect Identified
The subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Paterson Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Unit were able to identify Rosado as the suspect and the individual responsible for the robbery and shooting of the man.
Rosado was apprehended on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at just around 7:15 p.m., by members of the Haledon Police Department in the area of Lee Avenue and Henry Street in Haledon, New Jersey.
Rosado was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Passaic County Jail pending transfer to an area county jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion to detain Rosado pending trial.
If convicted of the charges, Rosado will face up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act, which requires Rosado to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.
