61-Year-Old Somerset Man Charged For Allegedly Sexually Assaulting A Child

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ.- Today, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone reported that following an investigation into allegations of the sexual assault of a juvenile. A 61-year-old Somerset, New Jersey, man and a pastor at a local New Brunswick Church was taken into custody and charged in connection with the sexual assault of a juvenile.

     On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Detective Daniela Castro of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Detective William Coleman of the New Brunswick Police Department began an investigation following receiving a report of the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile by Roby D. Cruz-Hernandez, 61, of Somerset, New Jersey, and a pastor at Iglesia Pentecostal El Mesias.

     During the investigation and after interviewing witnesses, including the juvenile victim, Detective Castro and Detective Coleman determined that a sex crime had been committed and there was probable cause to file criminal charges.

Charges Filed

     Accordingly, Cruz-Hernandez was taken into custody at his and formally charged with second-degree Sexual Assault; and third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Cruz-Hernandez was processed on the charges pending future court proceedings in Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
