NEWARK, NJ.- A 25-year-old Newark, New Jersey man learned yesterday that he will be spending just a little over the next decade in United States Federal Prison for a gunpoint robbery of a Newark, New Jersey store back in December 2021.

Prison Sentece

U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger reported that on Thursday, September 5, 2024, Quayon Moore, 25, of Newark, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael E. Farbiarz to 131 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release and a $1000 in restitution.

Moore had previously pleaded guilty before Judge Farbiaz to an indictment charging him with Hobbs Act Robbery; and Using and Discharging a Firearm for a Crime of Violence.

Information Contained In Indictment

According to information unsealed in the indictment, on December 8, 2021, Moore entered a Newark store, pointed a gun at a store employee, and demanded that the employee give Moore “everything he had.” During the verbal demands, Moore discharged the firearm in the direction of the employee, narrowly missing the employee with the bullet lodging in the wall behind the employee.

While continuing to point the firearm at the employee, Moore took money from the cash register and an iPhone.

U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited the FBI Newark Violent Crimes Task Force under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy, the Newark Police Department under the direction of Public Safety Director Fritz Frage and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Theodore N. Stephens, II, for the investigation, arrest, guilty plea and sentence.
