Middletown Delaware Man Pleads Guilty To Distribution Of Heroin

JOHNSTOWN, PA.- U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan reported on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, that Paul Smith, 46, of Middletown, Delaware, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and pleaded guilty before U.S. Senior District Court Judge Kim R. Gibson, to count one of a Superseding Indictment for violating federal narcotics laws.

     In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised on Tuesday that, During an investigation from April 2019 through July 2021 in the Western District of Pennsylvania, Smith Conspired with others to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute 100 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing heroin.

     During the investigation, Smith was intercepted on a federal wiretap obtaining quantities of illicit narcotics that he distributed to others throughout the Western District of Pennsylvania.

     Judge Gibson accepted Smith’s guilty plea and scheduled Smith to be sentenced on January 21, 2025. When sentenced, Smith faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in federal prison. Under Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based on the seriousness of the crime and Smith’s prior convictions, if any.
