Wharton Man Sentenced To Prison For Child Pornography Offenses

NEWARK, NJ.- U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger reported on Monday, September 16, 2024, that Anselmo Girimonte, 53, of Wharton, New Jersey, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Julien Xavier Neals to 84 Months in federal prison, followed by ten years of supervised release for possessing and distributing digital images of child pornography.
In addition to the imposition of incarceration, Judge Neals ordered Girimonte to pay $68,000 in restitution to the victims. Girimonte had previously appeared before Judge Neals and pleaded guilty to one count of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material; and one count of Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material.
According To Documents Filed With The Court
According to documents filed with the court, from December 27, 2021, through January 17, 2022, Girimonte distributed digital images and video files containing child sexual abuse over a public online peer-to-peer file-sharing platform.
Federal agents used undercover online sessions during the investigation to access the peer-to-peer program. During these sessions, a user shared multiple video files of adults sexually abusing prepubescent children from an IP address that was ultimately traced to Girimonte’s residence.
Police Execute Search Warrant
On March 2, 2022, federal and local law enforcement agencies executed a court-authorized search warrant on Girimonte’s residence, where investigators uncovered over 100 digital images and videos depicting child sexual abuse, including digital images of prepubescent children being sexually abused on Girimonte’s cell phone.
U.S. Attorney Sellinger commended the investigative efforts of Homeland Security Investigations agents and Detectives from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Rockaway Police Department, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for the investigation, conviction, and federal prison sentence.
