Carlstadt Man Charged For Driving Drunk And Killing Motorcyclist

PASSAIC, NJ.- On Friday, September 20, 2024, a 32-year-old Carlstadt, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with driving while intoxicated and killing a 59-year-old motorcyclist in Passaic, New Jersey.

     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Friday, September 20, 2024, members of the Passaic Police Department responded to the intersection of Paulison and Pennington Avenues in the City of Passaic following receiving a report of a serious motor vehicle collision.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Carlos Oscario-Rodriguez, 59, lying on the roadway in the middle of the intersection. Mr. Oscario-Rodriguez was immediately transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Police Determine Aguilar Was Under The Influence

     The initial investigation by responding Police Officers determined that Mr. Oscario-Rodriguez was driving his motorcycle through the intersection when he was struck by a Ford Excursion operated by Johnny Aguilar, 32, of Carlstadt, New Jersey. Further investigation uncovered that Aguilar was driving under the influence of alcohol when he struck the motorcycle. A later blood alcohol concentration test confirmed that Aguilar was over the legal limit.

     Accordingly, Aguilar was taken into custody and charged with second-degree Death by Auto. Aguilar was processed on the charge and was remanded to custody pending his first appearance in Passaic County Central Judicial Processing Court.
