SCRANTON, PA.- U.S. Attorney Gerald M. Karam reported on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, that Michael Anthony Boomer, 60, of Blakeslee, Pennsylvania, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani to 41 months in federal prison for Trafficking Cocaine; and Being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

According to documents filed with the court, Boomer pleaded guilty before Judge Mariani on February 28, 2024, to the charge of Drug Trafficking and Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Target Of Narcotics Investigation

Boomer was a target of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Stroud Area Regional Police Department into narcotics trafficking in the Monroe County, Pennsylvania, area. Boomer sold cocaine multiple times to a confidential informant during controlled buys monitored by law enforcement.

The controlled buys led investigators to obtain a federal court-authorized for Boomer’s Blakeslee residence. During the execution of the search warrant, Boomer and his co-defendant and son, Justin Lamont Hardy, were in the residence and were found to be in possession of quantities of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, cash, and multiple firearms. Both Boomer and Hardy were taken into custody and charged.

Additional Requirements Ordered

In addition to the 41 months of incarceration, Judge Mariani ordered Boomer to pay a $200 special assessment penalty and placed him on three years of supervised release upon completing his federal term of imprisonment. Judge Mariani sentenced Hardy to 60 months in federal prison for Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking earlier this year.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to reduce violent crime and gun violence throughout the communities they serve.
