Columbus Man Sentenced To Prison For Federal Narcotics Crime

HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- On Monday, September 23, 2024, Terry James Cox, 40, of Columbus, Ohio, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Chambers to 24 months in federal prison to be followed by four years of supervised release for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Mixture Containing Methamphetamine.
According to documents filed with the court, on November 30, 2023, members of the Huntington Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle operated by Cox in Huntington, West Virginia. During the motor vehicle stop, Police Officers found methamphetamine, a loaded firearm, and ammunition.
Cox Admits Guilt
In court, Cox admitted that he possessed 5.4 grams of methamphetamine and that he intended to distribute the methamphetamine. Cox further admitted that he also possessed the loaded American Arms .22 caliber revolver, .22 caliber ammunition, and digital scales in the vehicle.
U.S. Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative work of the Huntington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which led to Cox’s guilty plea.
