Paterson Man Charged With Attempted Murder In June 2024 Paterson Shooting

PATERSON, NJ.- Following an investigation, a 21-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken custody Wednesday night in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, by members of the New Jersey State Police and jailed after being charged in connection with a shooting that occurred on June 28, 2024, in the City of Paterson.
Charges Filed
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Marquay T. Crawford, 21, of Paterson, has been formally charged with first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The charges stem from an investigation that began on June 28, 2024, when, at 10:51 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting with injuries near the intersection of Mill and Market Streets in the City of Paterson.
Police Officers Find Victim
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 56-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment and released. The initial investigation by responding Police Officers found evidence of a shooting crime scene and determined that the victim was shot at that location.
A subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Paterson Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Unit were able to identify Crawford as the shooter and the individual responsible for injuring the man.
After being processed on the charges, Crawford was remanded to an area county correctional facility pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court in Paterson, New Jersey. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Crawford pending trial.
If convicted on the charges, Crawford faces up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act, which would require Crawford to serve 85% of his custodial sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
