Union Man Charged With Transporting Irish Nationals At Northern Border

BURLINGTON, VT.- On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont reported, that Tyshan Murray, 43, of Union, New Jersey, has been charged with an indictment of Unlawfully Transporting Citizens of Ireland who Entered the United States Illegally.

     According to U.S. Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest, on Thursday, September 26, 2024, Murray appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and pleaded not guilty before U.S. District Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle to the charges unsealed in the indictment. Judge Doyle entered Murray’s plea with the court, and ordered Murray to remain detained pending trial.

According To Documents Filed In The Indictment

     According to charging information unsealed in the indictment. On September 8, 2024, Murray traveled from New Jersey to Richford, Vermont, where he picked up nine Irish citizens who had crossed into the United States illegally in the vicinity of Drew Road in the Town of Richford.

     After picking them up, Murray transported the nine non-citizens in his sport utility vehicle, including two young children who were unrestrained in the rear cargo compartment.

     If convicted of the charges, Murray faces up to five years in federal prison. The actual term of imprisonment would be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge based on the seriousness of the offense and Murray’s criminal history, if any.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
