Kanawha County Man Sentenced To Prison For Federal Drug Offenses

CHARLESTON, W.VA.- On Thursday, October 3, 2024, Carlito Harris Carter, 45, of St. Albans, West Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Court Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. to 120 months to be followed by three years of supervised release for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Fentanyl; and Violating Supervised Release.
According to documents filed with the court, on January 22, 2024, Carter sold fentanyl to a confidential informant for $50 during a controlled buy observed by St. Albans investigators. The transaction took place at Carter’s St. Albans residence.
Following the controlled buy, four days later, St. Albans Police officials executed a court-authorized search warrant at Carter’s home. During the search, agents found around 300 grams of methamphetamine, 200 grams of fentanyl, 300 grams of marijuana, numerous firearms parts, ammunition, and $1,695 in U.S. currency.
Carter Admits Guilt To Crimes
During questioning by authorities and his subsequent guilty plea, Carter admitted to possessing and intending to sell and distribute the methamphetamine and fentanyl in St. Albans and surrounding communities in Kanawha County, West Virginia.
At the time of his arrest, Carter was on supervised release after being convicted of distribution of “Crack Cocaine” in United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia on September 2, 2011. Thursday’s sentence includes one year in federal prison for committing a crime while on supervised release.
