Northfield Woman Pleads Guilty To Diverting Fentanyl From ICU Patient

CONCORD, NH.- On Monday, October 7, 2024, Lisa Richardson, 48, of Northfield, New Hampshire, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Landya McCafferty to one count of Tampering with Consumer Products.
According to U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young, during Monday’s hearing, Richardson admitted to diverting fentanyl from a patient in the Intensive Care Unit at Concord Hospital. Following her allocution, Judge McCafferty accepted Richardson’s guilty plea and scheduled sentencing for January 16, 2025. At this time, Richardson faces a maximum of 10 years in federal prison, followed by up to three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
According to charging information in the indictment, on December 30, 2022, while working as a nurse at Concord Hospital, Richardson removed a quantity of fentanyl from an intervenous line bag inserted in an Intensive Care Unit patient. She then replaced the fentanyl with saline. At that time, Richardson was not assigned to the patient’s care as part of her duties as a nurse.
The Food & Drug Administration Office of Criminal Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration initially led the investigation.
