Atlantic City Man Sentenced To State Prison For Shooting Man In Back

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Jawaun Yeoman, 27, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and was sentenced by a Superior Court Judge to 12 years in New Jersey State Prison with 92 months of parole ineligibility on multiple charges including Aggravated Assault and Weapons offenses related to the March 2023 shooting of a man.

The sentence stems from an investigation that began on March 25, 2025, when members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting in the area of Sovereign and Sunset Avenues in Atlantic City.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower back. An ensuing investigation by Detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Atlantic City Police Department learned that two groups of men gathered to participate in a consensual and planned fistfight.

Yeoman and the victim participated in the fistfight, which concluded with Yeoman pulling out a handgun and firing it at the victim’s back.

Prior Conviction For Robbery

After the shooting, all the men fled the area. Yeoman was later apprehended in May 2023, and a handgun was found on him. Subsequent ballistics testing confirmed that the gun was used to shoot the victim. At the time of the shooting, Yeoman was on parole after he was released from prison for committing a second-degree robbery.
