Charleston Man Sentenced To Prison On Federal Opioid Crime

Thursday, October 10, 2024, 11:40 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

CHARLESTON, W.VA.- On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Jesus Emmanuel Davis, 25, of Charleston, West Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Joseph R. Goodwin to 40 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release for Distribution of Protonitazene and Isotonitazene.

According to documents filed with the court, on April 7, 2023, Davis sold five pills to a confidential informant in Charleston, West Virginia, during a controlled buy operation conducted by law enforcement investigators.

Pills Contained Synthetic Opioids

The pills were later to be determined as counterfeit pressed pills with the same markings as 30mg oxycodone pills. The West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory confirmed the pills contained protonitazene and isotonitazene, synthetic opioids potentially more dangerous and deadly than fentanyl.

Law enforcement investigators conducted seven additional controlled buys in which an associate of Davis, Curon Cameron Cordon, sold quantities of the same pills to a confidential informant. Cordone drove the confidential informant to Davis’ residence to obtain pills for four of the seven transactions.

Following the investigation and the subsequent controlled buys, on June 8, 2023, law enforcement investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant on Davis’ residence. During the search, investigators found 95 of the same pills purchased during the controlled buys from the pocket of a jacket hanging in Davis’ bedroom closet.

Davis Associate Pleads Guilty

Davis’ associate, Cordone, 24, also from Charleston, West, Virginia, pleaded guilty on August 1, 2024, to the Distribution of Protonitazene and Isotonitazene and is awaiting sentencing.

U.S. Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative efforts of the Charleston Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
