WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A 56-year-old Winslow Township, New Jersey, woman has been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty after state and local law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at her property and discovered five horses that were not being adequately cared for.

According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, on Friday, October 4, 2024, members of the Camden County Prosecutors Office and the Winslow Township Police Department, with the assistance of investigators from the New Jersey State Department of Agriculture executed a court-authorized search warrant for the removal of five horses from a property located on the 100 Block of Norcross Road in the Township.

Investigators Find Horses

Upon entry into the property, investigators found the five horses extremely emaciated and dehydrated. They were being boarded in a small stable without room to graze or feed. Subsequently, the horses were removed from the property and transported to a farm where they would be adequately cared for with a proper diet and room to graze.

Following the removal of the horses, investigators determined that Dana Grykin, 56, was the property owner, and Grykin was responsible for the horses’ care.

Accordingly, Grykin was taken into custody and charged with five counts of fourth-degree Animal Cruelty, for Failing to Properly Care for Animals. Grykin was processed on the charges and released on a summons pending future court proceedings in Camden County Superior Court in Camden, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
