LONG BEACH, NJ.- On Friday, October 11, 2024, Dona Carlo-Tanzola, 51, of Manahawkin, New Jersey, appeared in Ocean County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Kimarie Rahill to five years in New Jersey State Prison in connection with the theft of nearly $200,000 from her former employer.

Carlo-Tanzola appeared in Superior Court on July 1, 2024, and pleaded guilty before Judge Rahill to one count of Theft. During the plea hearing, She admitted embezzling funds from her former employer, Horn, Tyson & Yoder, an Engineering Firm based in Long Beach Township, New Jersey. During Friday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Rahill ordered Carlo-Tanzola to pay $178,774.35 in addition to the State Prison term.

The guilty plea and sentence stem from an investigation that began when the Long Beach Township Police Department received a report of a theft of corporate funds.

Detectives Uncover Theft

During the investigation, Long Beach Township Police Detectives uncovered that beginning in May 2022 and lasting through November 2022, Carlo-Tanzola, employed with Horn, Tyson & Yoder, took checks made payable to the business and deposited them into her own personal bank accounts for her own personal use.

To conceal the theft, Carlo-Tanzola edited the company’s financial records by deleting paid invoices in clients’ accounts despite the firm having received the payments for services rendered. In total, Carlo-Tanzola diverted dozens of checks totaling $178,744.35. Following being confronted with the theft, Carlo-Tanzola made partial restitution.

Following the investigation, Carlo-Tanzola was arrested by Officers of the Long Beach Township Police Department. She was processed on the charges and released pending future court proceedings, which led to her guilty plea and Friday’s prison sentence.
