Kyle Man Sentenced To Federal Prison For Federal Drug Violation

BLUEFIELD, W.VA.- On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Lansen Sharif Waugh, 44, of Kyle, West Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Court Judge David A. Farber to 30 months in federal prison to be followed by three years of supervised release, for his previously entered guilty plea to Distribution of Controlled Substances.
According to documents filed with the court, on June 15, 2021, Waugh sold controlled substances that contained cocaine and methamphetamine to a confidential informant from a Kyle residence where Waugh was staying during a controlled buy observed by law enforcement investigators.
During his plea hearing, Waugh admitted to the court to selling and distributing cocaine and a controlled substance containing heroin and fentanyl to the confidential informant on two other occasions during controlled buys.
Detectives Execute Search Warrant
On July 2, 2021, investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at Waugh’s residence in Kyle, West Virginia. During the search, investigators found and seized two firearms and additional amounts of cocaine. Waugh further admitted that he intended to sell and distribute the cocaine uncovered during the search.
U.S. Attorney Will Thompson Commended the investigative efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force for the investigation that led to Waugh’s arrest, conviction, and Tuesday’s federal prison sentence.
