Kanawha County Man Sentenced To Federal Prison For Child Pornography

HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Jerry Dewayne Carroll, 43, of Crown Hill, West Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S District Court Court Judge Robert C. Chambers to 84 months in federal prison to be followed by twenty years of supervised release.
During Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Chambers, in addition to the term of imprisonment, ordered Carroll to pay restitution of $15,000 and register as a sex offender for his previously entered guilty plea to Possession of Child Pornography.
Over 2,000 Images Of Child Pornography Found
According to documents filed and statements made in the court, around April 10, 2023, law enforcement investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant for Carroll’s person and seized his cellular phone. During the subsequent search of Carroll’s cell phone, investigators uncovered 2,087 digital images of child pornography, including images depicting the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers by adult men and through the use of animals.
A search of Carroll’s encrypted cloud storage account registered in Mega Ltd., accessible on his cell phone, revealed an additional 82 digital video files of child sexual abuse material. The videos included video footage of the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers, bestiality, and sadomasochistic material. Investigators were able to identify 56 known child victims depicted in the digital images and video files obtained from Carroll’s cellular phone.
U.S. Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative efforts of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigation for Carroll’s arrest, conviction, and Tuesday’s federal prison sentence.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
