Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Killed In Home Invasion

BRIDGETON, NJ.- New Jersey’s Law Enforcement community is mourning the tragic loss of Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Monica Mosley, who was shot and killed late last night during a home invasion in Bridgeton, New Jersey.

     On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at around 10:30 p.m., members of the Bridgeton Police Department responded to the 600 Block of Buckshutem Road after receiving a report of several individuals kicking in the front door of the residence.

Responding Police Officers Find Sgt. Mosley Dead

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found the victim, identified as Monica Mosley, having sustained a gunshot wound. Sgt. Mosley, who was a Detective Sergeant with the Prosecutor’s Office, succumbed to her injury and died at the scene.

     During the initial investigation, Police Officers were eventually led to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, where one of the alleged suspects was being treated for a gunshot wound. The suspect was detained for further investigation.

     “Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model for all those with whom she served and led in the law enforcement community throughout Cumberland County and beyond,” Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb McRae said in a statement. “She will be missed more than words can detail, but she will never be forgotten by her CCPO family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Mosley’s family at this most difficult time.”

     “Each of us should be able to feel safe in our homes, and when that safety is broken, it impacts all of us,” New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said in a statement. “Sgt. Mosley was a dedicated public servant, known for her commitment to justice and devotion to her community. We will always be grateful for her service.”

     No arrests have been made or charges filed at this time. The investigation is being jointly conducted by the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Bureau, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bridgeton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau.
