WEST NEW YORK, NJ.- On Friday, October 18, 2024, following an investigation, a 37-year-old West New York, New Jersey man was taken into custody and jailed following being charged by Detectives for the March 2024 sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl at his West New York home.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Friday, Detectives charged Christopher Ortiz, 37, of West New York, with second-degree Sexual Assault; third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact.
Ortiz was taken into custody at his home in West New York and was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he was processed on the charges and lodged in jail pending future court proceedings in Hudson County Superior Court in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Investigation Confirms Sexual Assault
The arrest and charges stem from an investigation that began when a 14-year-old girl reported to police that in the early morning hours of March 11, 2024, she was approached by an unknown man while she was walking. Within a few minutes, she entered the vehicle he was driving. The man, later identified as Ortiz, drove the girl to his West New York residence, where he sexually assaulted her.
Prosecutor Suarez commended the investigative efforts of the Hudson County Special Victims Unit for the investigation and Friday’s arrest of Ortiz. Anyone wishing to report a sex crime is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at (201) 915-1234.
