North Carolina Man Charged With Shooting Death Of Northwest D.C. Teen

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department arrested a 26-year-old North Carolina man into custody and charged him in connection with the fatal shooting death of a Northwest D.C. teen.
The arrest stems from an investigation that began on Saturday, May 18, 2024, when just minutes before 3:30 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting on the 1200 Block of V Street in Northwest D.C.
Police Officers Find Teen Victim
   Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders found a male teen, later identified as Devon Sharp, 16, of Northwest D.C., suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services immediately transported the teen to a nearby hospital for treatment, where, despite life-saving measures, the teenager succumbed to his injury and was tragically pronounced deceased on Monday, May 20, 2024.
An ensuing investigation by Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Unit was able to identify Tariq White, 26, of Raleigh, North Carolina, as the shooter and the individual responsible for the death of Devon Sharp. Accordingly, charges were filed, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, members of the U.S. Marshals Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located Mr. White in Virginia and arrested him on the D.C. Superior Court warrant, charging him with second-degree Murder While Armed for the shooting death of Devon Sharp.
