SAYREVILLE, NJ.- Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone reported that Detectives are continuing the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday in Sayreville, New Jersey.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on Monday, November 4, 2024, shortly before 11:30 a.m., members of the Sayreville Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Distress Call from family members staying at the Knights Inn in Sayreville reporting their child was being attacked by their dogs.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found the dogs attacking a 10-year-old boy after efforts failed to restrain the dogs, and in a last resort to save the boy from the child, Police Officers shot the dogs. During the shooting, a Police Officer was struck and grazed by a ricochet.

The child and the Sayreville Police Officer were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment, where they were both listed in stable condition.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information regarding what led up to the child being attacked is asked to contact Detective Stephanie Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3316.
