TOLEDO, OH.- A 52-year-old Toledo, Ohio, child predator has been convicted on charges involving a nearly eight-year span of possessing and distributing child pornography and chatting and sending nude images to children on social media platforms.

On Friday, November 8, 2024, a Federal Jury for the Northern District of Ohio found Derran Reebel, 52, of Toledo, guilty of multiple counts of Possession and Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material for violating federal laws regarding the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and documents filed with the court, Reebel knowingly and willingly received and distributed child pornography for nearly eight years, beginning on or about January 1, 20214, through August 17, 2022.

During the course of an investigation, investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant on Reebel’s Toledo residence. During the search, investigators located numerous books, magazines, periodicals, films, and videotapes that contained nude or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children.

Reebel Used Social Media To Chat With Kids

Investigators also discovered that Reebel had utilized social media application platforms for several years to chat with children and send them sexually explicit messages and digital images of himself.

Sentencing in the matter has not yet been scheduled, but when sentenced, Reebel faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years on each count and at least five years of supervised release. Reebel will also be required to register as a sex offender in the national database.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Toledo, Ohio Field Office.
