Brick Township Man Sentenced For Raping Woman He Met On Dating Site

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- A 56-year-old Brick Township, New Jersey, man who sexually assaulted a woman he met on a social media dating site, promising her he would take her on a date, only to rape and leave her stranded an hour from her home will be spending the next four years in New Jersey State Prison for his crime.
On Monday, November 18, 2024, Gary M. Kearns, 56, of Brick Township, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and was sentenced to four years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act, requiring Kearns to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.
Following being released from prison, Kearns will be under parole supervision for life. In addition, Kearns will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law Registration requirements.
According To The Prosecutor’s Office
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on August 26, 2024, Kearns appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and pleaded guilty to second-degree Sexual Assault. During the plea hearing, Kearns admitted that in August 2021, he had sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent in an Atlantic City hotel.
Kearns met and courted the woman on the Facebook social media platform’s dating site, giving the woman a fake name. Kearns picked up the woman and drove her to Atlantic City under the guise of taking her on a date. After sexually assaulting her, he left the woman in the hotel, over an hour from her home.
