GRAND RAPIDS, MI.- On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, a Federal Grand Jury for the Western District of Michigan returned an indictment against Kevin Dunson, 43, of Lansing, Michigan, on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of Methamphetamine; Possession with Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of Cocaine; and Being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.
Dunson was initially taken into custody and charged by criminal complaint on November 1, 2024, following an investigation and the execution of multiple court-authorized search warrants on properties maintained by Dunson, resulting in the seizure of over four kilograms of methamphetamine, two kilograms of cocaine, multiple firearms, and over a half-million dollars in cash.
“The trafficking of illegal drugs is a scourge that destroys lives and harms communities,” said U.S. Attorney Mark Totten. “Addressing this problem requires an all-hands-on-deck approach that includes not just enforcement but prevention and treatment, as well. While law enforcement alone will not solve this problem, we remain committed to disrupting the supply lines that bring these poisons into our communities.”
According To Charging Information Unsealed In Indictment
According to information unsealed in the indictment, law enforcement investigators executed court-authorized search warrants on October 29, 2024, at Dunson’s residence, his drug stash house, and two storage units, all within Lansing, Michigan. The search warrants were the result of a months-long investigation into Dunson’s drug trafficking activities. Dunson had been identified as a major drug trafficker who distributed large amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.
Search Warrants Executed
The searches resulted in the seizure of multi-kilogram amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine. Investigators also seized four firearms and $544,697 in U.S. currency. Dunson has multiple felony convictions barring him from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition.
If convicted at trial, Dunson faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison on the drug charges and up to 15 years in federal prison on the firearms charges.
