DETROIT, MI.- A 29-year-old Detroit, Michigan, man learned on Wednesday that he will be spending another 90 months in federal prison on top of the current 102-month prison term in connection with a two-day crime spree in the City of Detroit involving the burglary and theft of nearly fifty firearms from a Dearborn Heights gun store.
According to U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Deon Bell, 29, of Detroit, Michigan, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and was sentenced by a U.S. District Court Judge to 90 months in federal prison to be served consecutively to a 102-month sentence he received for a separate armed robbery of a T-Moblie store.
According To Charging Documents Filed With The Court
According to charging documents filed with the court, in the first burglary, Bell recruited three young men, including a juvenile, to help him steal firearms from a licensed gun store in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. The men stole a car and crashed it through the front window of the gun store, stealing 22 assorted firearms.
The next night, Bell once again recruited two other juveniles to join his crime spree. The group stole another car, crashed into the front of the gun store, and stole an additional 25 assorted firearms. After this second robbery, Bell led Police Officers on a high-speed chase, eventually being apprehended.
Several of the stolen firearms were recovered by Police Officers and Detectives in other unrelated investigations, but many of the guns have yet to be recovered. This was the most recent conviction for Bell, who has a long and extensive criminal history, including convictions for drug trafficking, unlawful carrying a concealed firearm, criminal sexual conduct, and armed robbery.
“Stealing cars, crashing them into gun stores to rob them, and putting nearly 50 stolen guns on the streets endangered our community in so many ways,” U.S. Attorney Ison said. “Worse still is the fact that Bell recruited juveniles to commit these crimes with him. Deon Bell’s repeated reckless, violent conduct has no place in our community.”
