ALBANY, NY.- On Friday, November 22, 2024, Drew Caswell, 26, of Cairo, New York, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Anne M. Nardacci to 108 months in federal prison, to be followed by twenty years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty pleas to multiple counts of child pornography offenses.
Caswell previously appeared in U.S. District Court and pleaded guilty to Distribution of Child Pornography; Possession of Child Pornography; and Receipt of Child Pornography. During Friday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Nardacci also ordered Caswell, upon release from federal prison, to register as a sex offender in the national database.
According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman, during his plea allocution, Caswell admitted in court that he utilized a file-hosting service to download and then distribute multiple digital images and video files of child sexual exploitation and abuse by publically posting them to a social media platform.
Caswell further admitted that on August 7, 2023, he possessed child sexual abuse material on his cellular phone, including nearly 300 digital images and video files depicting nude and sexually explicit conduct of toddlers and infants being sexually abused by adults.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
