NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Monday, November 25, 2024, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago reported that a Grand Jury sitting in Monmouth County, New Jersey, has returned an indictment against an Ocean County man and a Monmouth County man for their roles in the May 2022, shooting death of a 39-year-old Neptune Township, New Jersey man.

The indictment charges both Lamare R. Walker, 45, of Barnegat, and Kedrick Chatmon, 37, of Keansburg, with first-degree Murder; and first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Marques Mills, 39, of Neptune Township. Chatmon was also charged in the unsealing of the indictment with multiple weapons offenses.

The indictment stems from an incident that began on Saturday, May 14, 2022, when shortly before 11:00 p.m., members of the Neptune Township Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the intersection of Hillview Drive and Edgemere Road in the Township. Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered Mr. Mills inside a vehicle parked in the driveway of his home, having sustained multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. Mr. Mills was subsequently transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries the following morning.

A joint investigation by Detectives of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Neptune Township Police Department led to Chatmon and Walker being identified as the two individuals responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Mills.

Chatmon And Walker Apprehended

Following the return of the indictment, Chatmon was located and taken into custody on November 21, 2024, in Keansburg, New Jersey. Likewise, Walker was also located and taken into custody on November 21, 2024, in Barnegat, New Jersey. Both men were apprehended by Detectives of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Neptune Township Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Chatmon and Walker were processed on the respective charges and remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where both men remain detained. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a detention motion to detain them pending trial.
